Drag x Drive

A three-on-three wheelchair basketball game where you slide both controllers on a table like computer mice to push each wheel. Turning means moving one hand faster than the other, which feels odd for ten minutes and then clicks. Matches are short and it is best played online or with friends nearby.

The short version

The unusual control scheme of sliding both controllers like mice takes some getting used to, but it does click after a short while. Turning by moving one hand faster than the other feels odd for the first ten minutes.

Look and sound

The court and characters are simple and clean, with quick sound cues for passes and shots. It is not visually ambitious but stays clear during fast play.

The long haul

Matches are quick, so this suits short sessions rather than long ones. It suits people who enjoy trying an unusual control method with friends more than solo players.

What it's like to play

You play three on three wheelchair basketball, but instead of a stick and buttons, you hold each half of the controller in your hands and slide them across a table like a pair of computer mice, one for each wheel of your chair, moving both together to go straight and one faster than the other to turn. This takes real getting used to, your first few minutes will likely involve spinning in circles or drifting sideways when you meant to go straight, but it does start to click after some repetition. Shooting and passing use simple button presses layered on top of that sliding movement, so your hands are busy the whole time in a way most games do not ask of you.

The goal is standard basketball, get the ball in the hoop more than the other team, but the challenge here is almost entirely about controlling your chair well enough to get into position, since aiming a shot matters less if you cannot line yourself up correctly. Matches move quickly and reward players who have practiced the sliding motion enough to make sharp turns without losing their balance or spinning too far. Difficulty comes from playing against players who have already gotten comfortable with the odd control scheme, since a newcomer will be at a real disadvantage in the first several matches.

A single match is short, usually just a few minutes, which makes it an easy game to jump into for a quick session, best played online or with friends nearby who are also willing to learn the unusual controls together. It suits people who enjoy sports games and do not mind a genuinely different way of controlling a character rather than the usual stick and buttons. The honest drawback is that the control scheme is a real barrier at first, and someone unwilling to push through an awkward opening stretch may bounce off before it starts to feel natural.
